 COURAGE

Where does courage come from? What brings courage to life?

Courage is the commitment to do what you know is right.  Courage arises when your integrity will not allow any other choice.

Courage comes from following a purpose that goes beyond your own petty concerns. Because of that, courage gives far-reaching power and consequence to your actions.

In the short term, courage can often appear foolish. In the long run, courage has the power to move the whole world in a positive direction.

Courage asks much of you, yet it is not complicated and is always within your reach. Courage is truth put into action.

In every moment, courage is there for you to choose. In every moment, courage is the choice that will fulfill the best of who you are.

I recently spoke on the "Joshua Mandate" and the Lord revealed the power of "causing" people to inherit their land.  In Deuteronomy we find Moses telling Joshua more than once, "Be Strong and of good courage and you will cause the people to inherit the land."  We are supposed to have lives like that..... a life that will compel, provoke and lead by our example of Christ and the fervor of His purposes.    To "cause" is to be a driving force and to produce an effect.  It actually means to bring something into existence!  In order for Joshua to "cause" the people to inherit the land, he had to do two things:  1) He had to be strong and 2) He had to be courageous. 

In reviewing these two words I found that strength means courage and courage means strength.  

To be strong is to fasten yourself to something and to seize it; to withstand circumstances and behave valiantly.  

To be courageous or of "good courage," as the Word says, is to be alert and steadfastly minded, to have a steady resolution that cannot be shaken and to be firm and constant in your purpose.

I asked the Lord what would prevent Courage and he told me this:

"Compromise Kills Courage"   So, there it is.  To have enough courage and strength to actually CAUSE the inheritance of your land and the land of others for the glory of God, you must destroy compromise.

James 1:8  "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."  Be steadfast and take ground for the Lord!

An amazing variety of people from a vast group of denominations are attending to be reminded that we serve a living Savior full of power and might.  He can overcome anything that you bring to Him.  Throw the doctrine and differences out and know this……. Jesus is enough, because Calvary is accomplished!

                                                  A Little Father’s Day History
June 19, 1910 was the first Father’s Day, observed in Spokane, Washington.  While there had been other celebrations before that, this was the first widely-promoted celebration in America.  The person behind it was Louise Smart Dodd.  Her vision was for a religious event including special services, small gifts, and loving greetings from children to their fathers.  She spoke to her pastor, who took it to the local pastor’s association.  From there the mayor of the city and the governor of the state gave their support.  Even William Jennings Bryant encouraged the event.

Mrs. Dodd wanted to honor her father who had been left with six children when his wife died in childbirth.  While operating a farm, he raised his children with great devotion.  Louise’s gratitude needed expression!

Despite the governor’s proclamation, Father’s Day was slow to catch on, at least the event Louise Dodd envisioned.  A special day for fathers was proclaimed in other places, each thinking they had a new idea.  Interestingly enough, all of these events were in June.  In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson endorsed the idea, and in 1924 Calvin Coolidge recommended national observance of the day “to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligation" and strengthen intimate ties between fathers and children.

It was 1966 before President Johnson established the third Sunday in June as the date of the celebration, but this was not made official until 1972 under President Nixon.

The Bible contains strong ideals for fatherhood.  Unlike other religions, the God of the Bible is portrayed as a loving Father.  Jesus described him as His own Father.  God gave his beloved son for the salvation of the world.  Wherever Christianity has prospered, fatherhood has taken on a deeper meaning.

William Jackson Smart was a loving, self-sacrificing father.  His understanding of the Father-love of God led to a national day of recognition for all fathers.
