What is your truth? When determining truth, where do you base your belief? Who are you made of? What mold do you come from? Who do you live for?

“May your heart beat pure for Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior”
I find myself at a point in study where I am asking how one passage relates to another in God’s written Word. I used to look at chapter one in James as a series of instructions and thoughts rather than a concise unit on how to “do” trials. oy of enduring t
James 1:1-4 “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered abroad, greeting. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations: Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Looking at the definition of temptations was of interest to me. After all there will be divers temptations, in other words many in kind. So what does that look like? And how do I find joy in it? Well the Strong’s Concordance defines temptations as such, a putting to proof (by experiment of good, experience of evil, solicitation, discipline or provocation), it implies adversity. It has become obvious that we can not continue until we define the bys in which the proofing process happens, and for that matter, what does proof entail?
Proof is defined as any effort, process or operation that makes certain a truth or fact.
*So we count it JOY when we find ourselves in a place to make certain a truth or fact in our life. How do we determine the truths? What does the vehicle look like?
Experiment is a trial; an act or operation designed to discover some unknown truth, principle or effect, or to establish it when discovered.
*In the context of this scripture a temptation will put you in a place to determine and establish, through the act of “GOOD” in the midst of a trial, an unknown fact, attitude or result about your life.
Experience is the observation of the same facts or events happening under like circumstances.
*Temptations put to proof the repeated experience, not participation, of evil. Let’s talk about that.
The Word of God says to resist the d(evil). Should we repeatedly place our selves in a position to experience evil? The act of a thing and experience of thing are two completely different things. And we must be certain not to confuse the two. The act of something implies effort on your part. The experience of something implies you observing or suffering that effort. The effort might come from you or another source. See the difference? Experience helps you determine what to avoid or engage in. In this instance what to avoid. Avoid the following situations:
Solicitation is the earnest request; seeking to obtain something from another with some degree of zeal and earnestness.
*Believe it or not, we have all experienced peer pressure, or by this definition solicitation, in our life. Someone earnestly pushing use to use fowl language, watch a movie we know is not righteous or worthy of our Lord’s viewing. We have all been placed in a position to choose right or wrong with an offender zealously seeking to obtain our approval of their unrighteous behavior.
Provocation is anything that excites anger and is the cause of resentment.
*Trials can bring MOMENTS OF FRUSTRATION AND DISCONTENT. What can we do to avoid these circumstances?
Discipline is the rule of government; method of regulating principles and practice.
*When we are enduring, abiding, and tarrying under trials and temptations who and what is regulating our thoughts, feelings, actions and emotions? Who is our government? What is our example of discipline? Do our choices reflect the life of Christ? Simply put, be in the Word and in prayer.
Consider these times JOYFUL?
One word, temptation, reveals “how,” (by effort, process or operation, a form of movement in our part) , and “by what effort”( positioning ourselves to determine the truth in our lives by experiment of good, experience of evil, avoidance of solicitation and provocation and effort of discipline) the Lord will take to perfect His call in our lives. All these situations in our lives will prove who we are. They will determine what we believe and who we are persuaded by. And ultimately work out a Christ-like patience. For if the proofing place is supported by good ground, observed and experienced with an honest and good heart, and established in the Word, than the seed that falls during temptations will bring forth fruit with patience. Growing fruit takes time (reference Luke 8:15). If we let the trial run its course, remembering the necessary cultivating tools, than what is being worked out in us will be complete in deed. Not because we “did” anything, but because we let God do everything, all the while being joyful in the midst of His work and our suffering!

I must briefly interject with an explanation of resources. I am drawing my definitions from Noah Websters’ 1828 Dictionary and the Strong’s Concordance, in which you will not find definitions for words like dude (one of my favorites). Current edition defines Dude as:
1 : a man extremely fastidious in dress and manner : dandy
2 : a city dweller unfamiliar with life on the range; especially : an Easterner in the West
3 : fellow, guy —sometimes used informally as a term of address <hey, dude, what's up>
I use the 1828 version to understand the meanings of words used in Biblical times. Terminologies and expression of language had not been altered with such degree until recently.

It is my prayer that you will glean the Lord’s understanding from this article of the heart and know that it comes to you with great pain and joy for God’s tender young warriors. I am praying for you and greatly desire you to rise above the standard of young saints in this nation. Rise and proclaim the great and terrible day of the Lord!
Together in Christ,
Kristin Walters
