Welcome to the Abba’s Heart eBeat, the monthly eNews from Abba’s Heart Ministries. Read on to be informed and inspired about what God is doing.

Note from Sandi

Jesus came as a child and told us to come to Him as a child as well. As I ponder what’s the big deal about a kid… I’m struck with a thought: A child is completely vulnerable. A child is left laying there forced to trust the one they have been entrusted to. Jesus had to trust his Father, God, and He gave us a powerful example of how to do that… sometimes you just have to lay there and let it happen. Sometimes there is no push, there is no hope, there is no wonder left. The Bible says that “when you have done all, then just stand.” When you can’t stand anymore, you just have to lay there and trust the Lord to prevent the trucks from running you over along life’s freeway! Children are born trusting. So often, they unlearn trust at our hand, but when God sent them, they were trusting machines. Take some time today and ask the Lord to help you trust Him with everything, in every area of your life… then you will be coming to Him as a child! The manger is a big deal. God used it for a reason. Nothing is on accident, so let us approach the manger and become completely vulnerable to the Lord and His causes upon us. Merry Christmas to you and all whom you encounter!

Mark 10:13-15

And they brought young children to Him, (Jesus) that He should touch them: and His disciples rebuked those that brought them.

But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.”

What Kind of Seeker are You?

The Magi and King Herod sought an encounter with the Christ child for different reasons and with very different results. The Magi were willing to be interrupted and took the time to seek despite their busy lives of significant power and influence as advisors to kings. When they encountered the truth, they knew to respond to it by bowing down and worshiping Him.

Herod did not react in the same way. He was paranoid and maniacal about the possibility of losing his throne. Although he also was a seeker, he was so full of himself that he could not be emptied or bow down. Herod realized the true message of Christmas — that the baby who had come into the world demanded his throne. However, instead of acknowledging the truth and getting out of his chair to bow down and worship Him, he decided to eliminate the threat to his throne. He ended up empty with blood on his hands by ordering the slaughter of the innocents.

Our choice is to decide what kind of seeker to be: a Magi or a Herod. Are we going to remain so full of ourselves and our wants and desires that we end up empty like Herod, or are we going to empty ourselves to seek the truth and respond to it when we encounter it like the Magi? When we encounter the truth, our job is to get out of our chairs, bow down, and respond to it.
