HELP US GET A NEW PORN RADIO STATION OFF THE AIR!

You may have already heard that a local Christian radio station, an affiliate of K-LOVE, is being sold to a station that is broadcasting radio porn.  The license transfer does not actually take place until August 10, and if we all act right away, we can make a difference and keep this from becoming a permanent part of our community.

ACTION STEP 1:

Copy and paste the following letter to Word, or whatever word processing software you have.  There are two versions of the letter.  The first is for residents of Kingsburg.  The second is for residents of nearby cities.

  • Modify the letter with your personal information
  • Print three copies of the letter and sign them.
Mail one to the FCC address on the letter.
                      Mail one to K-LOVE

  • Also fax it to Donna Gregg of the FCC               (866) 418-0232

It is important to do this right away so that they receive the letters and faxes by August 9, 2006.  A decision will be made on August 10, 2006.  There may also be an appeal process, so don't give up.

ACTION STEP  2:

Forward this page to your friends in the Central Valley area.  The envelope in the upper right corner makes it easy.  Hint:  Send it to yourself, then forward to them so they receive it from you.

ACTION STEP 3:

Call Devin Nunes’ Visalia office and leave a message with his staff:  559-733-3861.

Dear Ms. Gregg:

As a concerned citizen of Kingsburg, California I am officially protesting the character, ownership, license transfer and legality of operation of Pro-Active Communications -Fresno, LLC located at 7829 E. Highland Avenue, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.

On or about July 26, 2006 the radio station in question, KFYE FM, after a period of being off the air estimated at less than one week, began broadcasting the format referred to in the broadcast as “ALL SEX, ALL THE TIME.”  The broadcast was and is an extremely suggestive format of prurient innuendo and language found by this community to be “patently offensive” as defined by the FCC to be “Indecent speech as language that, in content, depicts or describes sexual or excretory activities or organs in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium.”  The community of Kingsburg believes that past precedent defining “patently offensive” applies in this specific case which may suggest that the individual selections aired on KFYE FM, which have been played for years and individually may be marginally offensive, meet the definition of “patently offensive” when played as combined selections and preceded and followed by announcements and language that is suggestive and prurient in nature.

Pro-Active Communications - Fresno, LLC begins their broadcasts identifying themselves as a “Kingsburg, Fresno” radio station without warning or proper notification to the City government or the community of Kingsburg.  Nothing has been posted in the local newspaper, Kingsburg Recorder, concerning the transfer of ownership.  The KFYE FM public folder located at the Kingsburg Branch Library consists of an aged year manila folder with nothing in it.  Now the new owners want to change the status of the license from Educational to Commercial without notice, without investigating the needs of the community, and without determining the standards and values of the community.  Kingsburg has no local Emergency Notification System at our disposal due to the “Translator” status of the previous licensee.

In describing our community, Kingsburg is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley and is known throughout the area as the “Swedish Village.”  This is a strong family-based community with family values exemplified by our many events during the year including Concerts in the Park, Swedish Festival, Car Show, Independence Day Celebration, Julganfest, and Santa Lucia Festival.  Our community of just over 11,000 has a large senior citizen population, 17 churches, and families that are three or more generations deep living in the same town.  All in all we are a community where people come to raise their families in a wholesome environment.

There is no way to protect our children from the broadcast of indecent material on the FM band due to the lack of a mandatory “V chip” to enable parental control.  The responsibility is left up to the licensee to comply with Federal regulations regarding the broadcasting of indecent material and when the moral values of the licensee is in question, as is the case in this matter, to whom do we turn?  Our suggestion and request is to deny the transfer of license, disallow the change of status to Commercial and reprimand the individuals who perpetrate the broadcasting of such trash.

I respectfully request that your office evaluate the filings of the aforementioned applicant and determine that the award of this license would not be in the best interests of the community of Kingsburg and the listening public.  Thank you for your attention to this most pressing issue.

Sincerely,
